Maggie Gyllenhaal otherwise called as Margaret Ruth Gyllenhaal is an American actress as well as stage performer. She is the oldest daughter of director Stephen Gyllenhaal and Scriptwriter Naomi Foner Gyllenhaal. She is a born Scott-Jewish by birth and was brought up at Los Angeles and attended Harvard-Westlake Preparatory School. She has also acquired her Bachelors Degree in Arts from the University of Columbia in the year 1999. While pursuing her degree she worked as a waitress in a Restaurant in Massachusetts. She is married since 2006 to Peter Sarsgaard who is also an actor and has a daughter named Ramona.
She first featured in a film called Waterland in the year 1992, which was followed by A Dangerous Woman in the year 1993 and Homegrown in the year 1998. She has also appeared in cooking shows along with her mother and her brother and actor named Jake Gyllenhaal. She in the year 2000 started playing supporting roles in films like Cecil B. Demented and Riding in the Cars with Boys in the year 2001. Later in the same year 2001 she played in her brother’s film named Donnie Darko in which she played the role of On-Screen Sister. She started performing in theatre in plays named Closer directed by Patrick Marber for which she gained a lot of complementary reviews. Other than this she has performed on stage in quite a number of other Shakespearian plays like Antony and Cleopatra, The Tempest, etc. She performed a comical role in the film called Secretary for which she was nominated for a Golden Globe award. After that she did quite a lot of films like Adaptation in 2002, Confessions of a Dangerous Mind in the year 2002,Mona Lisa Smile in the year 2003 which she acted along with Julia Roberts, Casa de los Babys in the year 2003, Criminal in the year 2004, Strip Search in the year 2004, Happy Endings in the year 2005 and in the year 2006 she did a series of films namely Monster House, World Trade Centre, Sherry baby, Stranger than fiction, Trust the Man and in the year 2008 her next movie The Dark Knight was released in which she played the role of Assistant District Attorney in the place of Katie Holmes. In 2009 her Movie Uncle Vanya by Off-Broadway productions was released. Thus goes her film career with various pictures and plays on life.
Maggie is said to be politically active and she has given speeches about the Iraqi War and she has acted against the 9/11 incident on the World Trade Centre in the movie World Trade Centre. She has supported President Barack Obama during the presidential election at the US and has gone through various university campuses in encouraging students to Vote for him and she has also explained them that how voting is important for a Citizen. She has also held campaigns for American Civil liberties Union for which her whole family supports. She also conducts shows for collecting funds for the people under poverty line to start their own enterprises and business.
