Martin Landau, an American actor known for his work in TV series Mission: Impossible, was born on 20th June 1931 in Brooklyn, New York to parents Selma and Morris Landau. Early in his teen years, he was employed by New York Daily News as a cartoonist. He remained with New York Daily News for over 5 years occasionally contributing for “The Gumps” comics. But years later he was hugely inspired by mega star Charlie Chaplin movies and decided to take the path of acting. He got himself trained at Actor’s Studio and performed in theatre plays including Detective Story.
He debuted in Broadway play “Middle of the Night” and got his first break on big screen in the movie “North by Northwest”. Subsequently he starred in the hit movie “Cleopatra”, “The Greatest Story Ever Told”, “Alone in the Dark”, “Crimes and Misdemeanours” “Tucker: The Man and His Dream” and won Academy Award for his performance in “Ed Wood”. He featured in the TV series “ Outer Limits”, “The Twilight Zone” The Bellero Shield", "The Man Who Was Never Born" but became an overnight star starring in “Mission: Impossible” and classic “Space:1999”.
He married Barbara Bain on 31st January 1957 but the couple filed for divorce in 1993. They have two children, Susan Landau Finch and Juliet Landau .
Martin Landau was honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. His recent film projects include “Harrison Montgomery”, “Lovely Still” and “The Company Men”.
He now resides in West Hollywood, California.
