MISSION U.K

The Mission was music group based in the city of Leeds in England. The group was originally established in the year 1986, but they had an on-off music career, splitting up in the year 1996. They re grouped once in 1999, but split for the second time in the year 2008. The band specialises in the gothic rock genre of music, and they have recorded with several top music labels the likes of SPV, Cooking Vinyl records, Playground recordings, Vertigo records, Mercury records, Nightracks, Equator records, Cleopatra records and Received records. The band has also had associations with other artists such as Dead or Alive, Artery, The Sisters of Mercy, and Red Lorry Yellow Lorry. The last band line up consisted of Wayne Hussey, Craig Adams, Mark Gemini Thwaite, Ritchie Vernon and Steve Spring.

The origin of the Mission music band was in the form of another band named The Sisterhood. One of the original members of the band was Andrew Eldritch, who did not feel that the band was suited for Sisters of Mercy songs, which they had been playing then. Soon they began changing their music style, and the name of The Mission was coined by Wayne Hussey, because of his childhood days, hen his parents wanted him to join a missionary. The band dug up several of the old Sisterhood music which had been rejected by Eldritch, and used it to start off The Mission recordings. They were signed up a label called the Chapter 22 records, and released a set of two indie music singles under the new band name. The singles became quite a success, and the band started attracting attention from other record companies as well.

The band’s debut music album was released, titled as Gods Own Medicine, in the year 1986, after which the band started touring the entire country in promotion of the album. Their touring ended with a magnificent show during the Reading Festival. The same year, the band also featured on a tour of the US, and featured on American television for the first time as well, on a show called The Joan Rivers Show. Shortly after this, the band released a video single, titled Crusade, which showcased some of the early days of the band, with their loud noisy image and fans screaming at their concerts. It was a very good booster for their next album release, which was called Children, and came out in 1988. After another music release, called The First Chapter, the band split u when Wayne decided to call it quits in the year 1996.

The band made a come back with a new line up in the year 1999, and went on to release a few more albums and single. However they could not re create the magic of their earlier spell, and disbanded permanently in 2008. Some of their later releases include Carved in Sand in 1990; Grains of Sand in 1990; Masque in 1992; Neverland in 1995; Blue in 1996; Aura in 2001; and God Is a Bullet in 2007.
