Sir Roger Moore

Sir Roger George Moore was born on October 14, 1927. He is an English actor most famous by his witty appearance and sophisticated personality. He is legendary for portraying the two most celebrated British action heroes of all time, as Simon Templar in the TV series The Saint and for seven years and as James Bond from 1973 to 1985 for twelve years.

Roger Moore’s hometown is in Stockwell, London. His father is a Policeman George Moore and his mother Lillian Pope. He attended the Battersea Grammar school but later being moved to Hols worthy, Devon mainly due to the World War II. He also served in the Royal Army Service Corps which he commanded a small depository in West Germany. Previously before the war Roger Moore starred mainly as an extra, in different films. His first cameo appearance was during the 1945 film Caesar and Cleopatra and later in The Wild Geese with his film idol Stewart Granger.

During the 50s Moore worked as a brand model for knitwear, thus earning the nick “The Big Knit” alongside his image. His career during his stay at the MGM productions didn’t do so well, only when he shifted into TV shows that his name became synonymous to stardom. It was not until 1961 when the Moore was being included in the cast of The Saint as Simon Templar, a novel by Leslie Charteris that he acquired a worldwide acceptance. The show was being made with the target US audience in mind, as such Roger Moore became popularly known through the United States.

The series of James Bond films from 1973 to 1985 epitomize by his ongoing role in The Saint earned him the credibility and gave justice to his portrayal as the agent 007. On the record, he is the longest-serving James Bond performer with twelve years portraying the role, despite the anticipated comparison to Sean Connery.
